Focus:
Upon completion of this class the students will be able to shoot or do a bounce pass into a basket
with great effectiveness.
Upon completion of this class the students will be able to dribble a basketball with
proper mechanics and run with proper mechanics when playing this
game.
Format and Procedures:
To begin class I will have the students warm up by jogging around the gym then coming back to their numbers and do a
couple of stretches. I will then
bring the students together to watch Youtube videos on the internet on the
basics of basketball, and to show them the proper way to shoot and dribble. I will then split the class into two
sides to have two games going on at once so that the students will have more
opportunities to play. After they
are split up I will go over the rules and explain to them the proper way to
dribble, shoot, and do a bounce pass into the basket.
I will then let the first students in each line come get a basketball and
begin the game. At first the
students will just run around the cones back to their hoops and then after a few
rounds I will have them start to dribble around the cones.
When playing this game the students need to remember when they shoot the
ball at least one of their feet are in the hoops and that one student at a time
will be shooting from a hoop.
After I start the first game the winner of each round will start the next
group of students in each round. I
will then bring the students up at the end of class to go over what we have
learned today.
Guided Practice:
I will be walking around making sure the students are following the rules and
directions given at the beginning of
class.
Independent Practice:
Have the students assess themselves on the proper way to shoot and dribble a
basketball when playing this game in
class.
Closing:
When the students are in their lines we will recap what we learned in class today by
asking them questions over the rules and objectives that were taught in this
lesson.
Assessment:
I will assess the students by asking questions and having them give examples of
what we learned in class today.
Adaptation to Plan:
If there are any students in the class that have special needs we will make sure
the game is suitable for them to play.
In this game if need be we will make sure the students that have special
needs are getting to play and shoot some basketballs so that they do not get
left out of the lesson.
